The Red Skull is one of the better villains in the MCU. Having first showed up in Captain America: The First Avenger, Hugo Weaving gave a cold and calculating menace to the head of HYDRA. But the Red Skull vanished for many years, decades in universe in fact, and was transported to the planet Vormir to guard the Soul Stone while helping those in search of it. Fate was cruel to the Red Skull.

But thanks to confirmation from the Russo Brothers and speculative insight from new Red Skull actor Ross Marquand, we know that the Red Skull is no longer obligated to the Stone. Whether this Red Skull is from the timeline where Thanos destroys the Infinity Stones or not is unclear, but the opportunity for the Red Skull to return to Earth is now there and we think Marvel should seriously consider it for Phase 4 of the MCU.

The best-and most likely-reintroduction for the villain is in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Using US Agent as his pawn, Red Skull may have infiltrated the US government in hopes to reacquire the Tesseract. From there, it’s all bad news for our heroes, who have no choice but to suddenly ally themselves, reluctantly, with another former enemy: Zemo. From there, the Red Skull may begin using the Tesseract and could even hunt the stones down himself, all while his pawn US Agent, who has Super Soldier Serum in his blood, destroys Captain America’s good name. Will this happen or is it a crazy theory? Let us know what you think!
